Zen in the European Context
A Retreat on Interreligious Dialogue
With Prof. Michael von Brück
Since the 19th century it has been said that Christianity and Buddhism are not compatible, because Buddhism asserts non-self, self-redemption, and a negative attitude towards the world, while Christianity emphasizes the dignity of man, responsibility for the world (charity) and redemption by the grace of God.
In this retreat, in addition to the practice of meditation and short talks on Zen, we will look into what these statements mean and ask whether Buddhism and Christianity do not have a much deeper interrelation than is often assumed.
