Giving a Spiritual Dimension to Our Life
In our times many people have left their religion. However, this does not mean that they have abandoned spirituality for the rest of their life. They often look for another religion without accepting it totally. Spirituality is an undogmatic way to be enriched by the positive and nourishing aspects of a religion without being constrained by its dogmas and teaching. This means to fully appreciate the spiritual tradition and to feel supported by it but also to learn to trust one’s own practice and insight.
Spirituality can be an important source of joy and strength for our every day life, helping us to deepen our human relationships and to render our actions at our workplace and in society more fruitful. Mindfulness is the basic practice in Buddhism and other religions are (re-)discovering and practicing mindfulness increasingly. By concentrating fully on our breathing and our body we naturally arrive in the here and now and experience our own deep peace, strength and joy. The more we strengthen our mindfulness in our life the deeper will be our spiritual life, whatever religious traditioin we may adhere to. What the different religions have in common becomes more important than what is different between them.
