The trauma of war

The trauma of war – Its effect on our lives today

A course with Sister Ingrid (Bi Nghiem)

As a result of dictatorship, war, displacement and the hunger that marked the immediate aftermath of war, those who grew up as children during the Second World War experienced fear, pain and deprivation. The suffering of these ‘war children’ found expression in mental and psychosomatic disorders. And their traumas were often passed on to their children and grandchildren, many of whom still suffer from the effects today.

As families all too often cover past trauma with a blanket of silence, sufferers remain in the dark with the result that the causes of this suffering frequently remains inexplicable to the sufferers themselves. In this course we will take a closer look at the way this suffering, which for the most part has still not been healed and integrated, shapes not only our own life, but that of our family and society. In doing so we will try to understand and transform it.
